Luna arrived at HALO so shut down that she wouldn't even lift her head to look at her rescuers. Having come from a situation of severe neglect, she was terrified of everything from loud noises to the sight of a leash. At many shelters, Luna’s fearful behavior might have made her "unadoptable," but HALO’s no-kill, cage-free philosophy meant she had all the time in the world to heal at her own pace.
Our team worked tirelessly to build Luna’s confidence, using quiet patience and plenty of treats to bridge the gap of trust. We didn't rush her; we simply stayed by her side. Slowly, the "wall" crumbled, and Luna began to seek out affection. She eventually found a patient adopter who understood her past. Luna’s transformation from a trembling stray to a confident, tail-wagging family member is why we do what we do—because every dog deserves a chance to overcome.
